While it's both hard to go back and relieve the horrors of what happened on 9/11, it's also beautiful to remember how our country came together on September 12, 2001. Remember the American flags EVERYWHERE and the hugs given with no questions.
This is the life event that we will tell the next generation about and detail where we were and what we experienced. Time has passed but we are aware that today is marked by deep loss and grief for so many families. As we pray for comfort for them today, may we REMEMBER not only the day, but the heroes that emerged that day. Remember the first responders, medical workers, ordinary citizens, and flight passengers.
Years ago, I got to visit the 9/11 museum in New York City with Betty Rock from the Wally Show. We quietly walked around as tears started to fill our eyes. Out of reverance, I sat in a room where they showed the photos of the victims and announced their names one by one. Each one had hopes, dreams, and a family. Each one had a life that is valuable and each one is loved by God. I don't understand why God allows tragedies like 9/11. While here on earth we will always wrestle over our finate understanding of an all powerful God. What I do know, is that I saw Him in the selfless and heroic love that was freely given after our nation experienced this tragedy.
In the Bible, they often built physical monuments with rocks called "stones of rememberance." God knows our hearts are prone to forget and ignore seasons that held pain. We want to move on and look forward. However, there is so much to be learned in looking back and remembering. That is exactly why artist, Steven Curtis Chapman wrote this new song.
