Bekah's Honest Look at Love & Loss

Posted 11 hours ago - Jun 18, 2025

From: Wally

If you know Bekah—who used to be on our show before moving to afternoons here at WAYFM—you probably remember the moment her story took a heartbreaking turn. While we were in Africa, her husband Joey suddenly became critically ill. Things escalated quickly, and the doctors feared he might not make it through the night. My wife flew home with her as they prepared for the worst—doctors were saying Joey was in organ failure.

That moment marked the beginning of a 9-year journey through chronic illness for Bekah and Joey. Sadly, Joey passed away this May. But Bekah wanted to share her story—with all of you who have followed along, prayed, and walked through this with her. So we sat down for an honest and raw conversation about her loss.

My heart breaks to see her struggle. Even though she might not feel it right now, she is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. Week after week, she pulled off the impossible—caring for and loving Joey so well, all while still being a total boss queen at her job!

I think watching her go would be harder if she hadn’t said:

"Everyone in my life is exactly who I know them to be."

Her people have shown up for her, and I know she is not alone and she’s going to be okay!

Editor’s note: Bekah loves grammar and has corrected mine for years. I put her quote into ChatGPT and “who” is correct, not “whom” like I thought. I should’ve known better—she always wins at grammar. 😔

If you or someone you know is walking through a season of grief, this article might help give you a new perspective on pain.
