Compassion Ghana Outside Looking In

Any time you go to a Compassion project you are greeted with song and dance. I will spare you the video, but even from the stills you get the idea we were pretty bad.

Ghana Day 1 Dance

As we entered our first Compassion project here in Ghana, I saw a picture that perfectly illustrated why Sponsorship is so important.  As I watched the pastor speak my eyes were drawn to the pair of eyes staring at us from the outside looking in.  Compassion is like and Oasis in the middle of a difficult desert that gives life to kids.

The stark contrast of the hardship outside the walls compared to the joy that is inside is palpable.

One of my favorite things to do is to feed the kids their lunch.  It is 3 scoops of rice, a scoop of cabbage and one chicken wing sized piece of chicken.  I tried my best to sift out the super small pieces to give them the biggest ones I could. Because the reality is this might be the only meal they get today.

That is one reason my new sponsored child Nelson, says he enjoys enjoys coming to the project.  So I hooked him up with a huge plate, but more on Nelson later.

I love that Compassion is not about hand outs but hand ups.  They teach kids about Jesus, and give them skills so they can be self-sufficient adults. I even met an aspiring barber and let him cut my hair since my girl in America decided there was nothing more she could do to help my balding head:)

These kids are not at intersections holding signs asking for help.

Sponsor Me 2

It takes us being intentional to make a difference. You can experience what it feels like to truly change a life and you might even be surprised about how it changes you and your family.

Consider sponsoring one of our kids in Ghana today.  I just did!
