At 3 a.m., When She Had No One to Call, WAYFM Was There
Your support gave Navi hope in the darkest moment of her life
There are hours of the night that no one talks about.
Three in the morning. The house dark. The other side of the bed empty. A grief so heavy it pins you to the mattress.
That’s where Navi found herself after losing her husband, Jack, to cancer. Eighteen months of treatment. Eighteen months of watching the strongest person she knew become someone she barely recognized.
And then he was gone. Navi was alone in Tennessee, thousands of miles from family, with almost no one to call.
The silence almost won. Navi reached a point where she didn’t think she could keep going. She nearly took her own life.
But at 3 a.m., when she couldn’t call a friend, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t even pray – she turned on WayFM. And something broke through.
What WayFM provided for me during this excruciatingly painful time was comfort, companionship, and Hope. I could listen to songs any time I needed, even at 3 a.m. when I was all alone.
Songs like “Desperate” by Jamie MacDonald. “When I Fall” by Katy Nichole. TobyMac’s music after the loss of his son – springing from a grief that matched her own.
Those songs were someone else saying: I’ve been plunged into this darkness too, and God met me there.
Navi says,
My pain was so deep and raw, but those songs captured the essence of what I was feeling when no one else could understand it. If it hadn’t been for WayFM and the daily and hourly support, I could not have survived. It saved me from falling into the darkness and gave me daily strength.
Navi is still grieving. She’ll tell you that honestly. But she’s alive. And she keeps going.
I get Hope from listening, and I know my story isn’t finished yet. That’s what the songs I love keep telling me, and so I keep going.
Navi found Hope to cling to because of friends like you. Your generosity funds every hour of WayFM’s broadcast – including in the dark of night when the silence is closing in.
Thank you for being part of Navi’s story.
A Nap, Some Tears, and a Flipped Table
By WayFM DJ Betty
Have you ever noticed how Jesus had a wide range of reactions to the things happening around him? He cried. He got angry. He walked away. He even took a nap.
Jesus’ reactions weren’t always what people expected, but there’s something we can learn from each of them. Here are three moments that show us what it can look like to respond to life a little more like Jesus.
First, Jesus slept during the storm – his reaction to chaos was rest (Mark 4:35–41).
A violent storm hits; the disciples are terrified; the boat is taking on water… and Jesus is asleep on a cushion. When the disciples woke him in panic, Jesus wasn’t unconcerned; he simply wasn’t afraid.
Takeaway: Peace isn’t pretending there isn’t a storm. It’s knowing who is with you in it.
Second, Jesus wept with Mary and Martha – his reaction to grief was compassion (John 11:32–36).
When he arrived at Lazarus’s tomb, Jesus already knew what he was going to do. But in that moment of intense grief, he didn’t use his knowledge of the happy ending to dismiss the pain of the present.
Takeaway: Sometimes the Christlike reaction isn’t explaining someone’s pain – it’s entering into it with them.
Third, Jesus flipped the tables – his reaction to wrongdoing was anger (Matthew 21:12–13; John 2:13–17).
This is such an important counterweight to the gentle pictures we tend to have of Jesus. But his anger wasn’t petty, rash, or ego-driven. He was angry about something that mattered.
Takeaway: Anger itself isn’t automatically sinful. The question is, “What is our anger protecting, and what do we do with it?”
Jesus didn’t have one default reaction. But his reactions were always appropriate to what was actually happening rather than being controlled by fear, ego, or other people’s expectations.
Sometimes the Christlike response is compassion. Sometimes it’s righteous anger. And apparently, sometimes the most Christlike thing you can do is take a nap!
HOPE on Patrol
Your support reaches people in places you might never expect – like the front seat of a police cruiser in a small Kentucky border town.
Robert is a police officer who keeps WayFM on while he works.
I keep WayFM on all the time while I am at work. The music definitely keeps me grounded and in a positive attitude while I am doing my daily duties.
The hard calls don’t stop coming. But the music stays on.
There have been times we have finished a particularly stressful call, and just hearing that positive music soothes my soul and brings me back where I need to be.
At times, I have had my arrestees stay calm just due to your station being played and have had a couple even let me pray for them before I leave them at the jail.
I always praise God that I can touch people through his grace and your music.
Your support keeps WayFM on the air every day for people like Robert. Thank you!
I am truly blessed to have been able to be a part of Support Drive this year and hope my donation helps to keep your ministry on the air.

"We've Been on Both Sides of That Gift"
Bruce and his wife, Melanie, first tuned in to WayFM in 1993 as university students at Palm Beach Atlantic University. When the station came to Tallahassee in 2003, they started giving.
We believed in what WayFM was doing and wanted to help make sure that the same Christian music, encouragement, and message of Hope we were hearing could reach other people.
For many years, giving was simply Bruce and Melanie’s way of helping WayFM encourage someone else. Then, in 2016, everything changed. Bruce shares…
Our son passed away at only 18 years old. There really aren’t adequate words to describe what losing a child does to a family. It changes your world.
There were days when something I heard on WayFM seemed to come at exactly the moment I needed it. A song could remind me of God’s promises. A message could give me enough encouragement to keep moving forward.
We had spent years giving because we wanted WayFM to be there for someone who needed it. We never imagined that one day, that someone would be us.
Your gift isn’t simply keeping a radio station on the air. It helps make sure that encouragement is there when someone needs it most. We know because we’ve been on both sides of that gift.
We’d love to hear your story too. Reach out to our team at donorcommunications@hopemediagroup.com.
